PURPOSE:To obtain a nonaqueous battery having early voltage rise during liquid pouring while maintaining high discharge voltage and great capacity by using as an electrolyte a mixture prepared by combining thionyl chloride with aluminum chloride and a small quantity of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal. CONSTITUTION:A nonaqueous battery is constituted by using thionyl chloride as the positive active material and an active metal as the negative electrode. An electrolyte for the battery has improved conductivity and is prepared by combining thionyl chloride with aluminum chloride and a salt of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal (e.g., lithium chloride) of a molar amount of at most 1/2 of that of aluminum chloride. This nonaqueous battery exhibits a very early rise of electric discharge. |
