PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having excellent dispersibility of magnetic powder and durability by using a vinyl chloride/acrylic ester/di-n- butyl maleate copolymer and acrylic acid monomer as a binder component for a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic paint having a binder contg. a copolymer which is a copolymer of vinyl chloride/acrylate/di-n-butyl maleate and in which the acrylate part has <=40,000 average mol.wt. and the content thereof is 0-30wt% and which contains 0-15wt% di-n-butyl maleate as well as the acrylic acid monomer expressed by the formulas I , II, III (R2 are CnH2n+1, CnH2nOH, R3, R6 are CnH2n, R4, R5, R7 are CnH2n+1, n<=8) as a binder for magnetic powder such as gamma-Fe2O3 is prepd. An urethane resin and isocyanate compd. may be further added to the binder. The magnetic recording medium having good dispersibility of the magnetic powder and excellent squareness ratio, durability, etc. is thus obtd.
