PURPOSE:To attain ease of synchronism control and high speed of original reading by switching a lighting light source at each subscanning. CONSTITUTION:A drive section 9 lights selectively lighting light sources 1, 2. Since a synchronism control section 10 outputting a signal in synchronizing with the end of movement of an original platen 3' mounting an original 3 toward one direction impresses its output signal to the drive section 9, the main scanning and subscanning by other lighting light source are conducted at each end of subscanning by the lighting light source. A picture signal from a photodetector 8 is stored in a memory 11 every time one subscanning is finished and after the subscanning by the light sources 1, 2 is finished, an original image reproducing signal including color information is obtained by inputting two kinds of the picture signal stored in the memory 11 to a discrimination processing section 12.
