PURPOSE:To provide a flame-retardant plasticizer which gives flame-retarded plastics and at the same time can impart plasticity to the plastics, by reacting an epoxidized oil, a phosphorus-contg. phenol and a bifunctional phenol. CONSTITUTION:A flame-retardant plasticizer is obtd. by reacting an epoxidized oil (e.g. epoxidized soybean oil), a phosphorus-contg. phenol of formula I (wherein R1, R2 are each alkyl, halogenated alkyl, phenyl, halogenated phenyl, a group of formula II, III or IV; R3 is a 1-12C alkyl; A is a group of formula V, VI, VII or VIII; X is Cl, Br; a is 0-9; n is 0-5) such as a compd. of formula IX and a bifunctional phenol (e.g. hydroquinone) in the presence of a cationic activator. The plasticizer gives flame-retarded plastics and at the same time can impart plasticity to the plastics. Particularly, when used in the production of laminated sheets, laminated sheets having excellent plasticity and flame retardance can be obtd.
