An electrical heating conductor in the form of a no. of rings is disposed within the lower portion of the furnace and has spaces between the rings for receiving the cpds. in a solid compressed form and to transfer uniform heat to the cpds. Used for extraction furnace utilising thermal reduction and subsequent recovery of metals by condensation. High extraction rates are obtainable. Dross and cpds. which have been processed can be removed from the furnace while still hot and replaced with a fresh batch of cpds. for reduction.
