PURPOSE:To obtain stable tape travelling by guiding air flow generated by the rotation of a fan fitted to a rotary head cylinder body to a contact part between a magnetic tape and a lower drum from an air hole formed on the lower drum to form an air film on the contact part. CONSTITUTION:When a main shaft 10 is rotated, a rotor side rotary transformer 12 is also rotated in accordance with the rotation of the main shaft 10 and air flow having high pressure is generated in the lower drum 13 by a fin 12a formed on the peripheral part of the transformer 12. The air flow generated by the rotation of the rotary transformer 12 is passed through the air hole 13a formed on the lower drum 13 and guided into the contact area between the lower drum 13 and the magnetic tape 5. Consequently, the lower drum 13 and the magnetic tape 5 are affected by air film lubrication, frictional resistance is reduced, the travelling load of the magnetic tape 5 is reduced and a stable tape travelling characteristic is obtained.
