Foundry mould mfr. using dispersion contg. refractory material - acrylic monomer, hydrolysed alkyl silicate, polymerisation catalyst and crosslinking agent

Foundary moulds are mfd. by first coating a template with a dispersion prepd. by mixing an acrylic monomer, a hydrolysed alkyl silicate, a refractory material, a polymerisation catalyst and 0.2-10 mole% (w.r.t. acrylic monomer) of a cross-linking agent for teh acrylic polymer. After hardening of the dispersion the mould is sepd. from the template. A homogeneous dispersion of refractory material can be obtd. The moulds obtd. have the necessary characteristics for mfg. castings from high m.pt. metals, and after use can readily be ground which allows re-use of the refractory material.
