PURPOSE:To provide a material for optical or glazing glass which has excellent chemical resistance, flame-retardance, surface hardness, etc. and is suitable for a lens, window glass, etc. by using amorphous polycarbonate consisting essentially of a specific repeated unit as a blank material. CONSTITUTION:The amorphous polycarbonate consisting essentially of the repeated unit expressed by the formula I [R is the formula II, formula III; R1-R8 are H, alkyl, aryl, halogen; (p/p+q)X100 is 100-5; (q/p+q)X100 is 0-95] is prepd. by a method for bringing dehydric phenol [e.g.; 1,1-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)- 1-phenyl-ethane] and phosgen into reaction, etc. A plasticizer (e.g.; 2-ethylhexylphthalate), UV absorbent, etc. are incorporated, if necessary, into such amorphous polycarbonate, by which the intended material for optical or glazing glass is obtd. |
