A pesticidal composition for use in combating animal parasites that are damaging or destructive to useful edible fish comprises 3-trifluoromethyl-4-nitrophenol or a water-soluble salt thereof, e.g. alkali metal, ammonium, alkanolamine or an alkylamine salt and as a diluent a water-miscible organic solubilizer that exhibits a strong dipole force, e.g. an amide of an organic acid, e.g. dimethyl formamide or an alkylation product thereof or a dimethyl sulphoxide. The invention also comprises a method of combating animal parasites that are damaging or destructive to useful edible fish comprising introducing into water containing useful edible fish, and/or their spawn, as well as such parasites, as pesticidal agent, 3 - trifluoromethyl - 4 - nitrophenol, or an alkali metal, ammonium, alkanolamine or an alkylamine salt thereof in a concentration lethal to the parasites but below that causing destruction of any substantial proportion of the useful edible fish.
