PURPOSE:To reduce scattering of a toner and power consumption by interlocking always a photosensitive drum and an agitating roll in a developing tank with each other and interlocking the agitating roll and a magnet roll with each other only for development by a clutch mechanism. CONSTITUTION:A photosensitive drum 16 and agitating rolls 20 and 21 in a developing tank 18 in an electrophotographic copying machine are always interlocked with each other by idle gears 25 and 26 and are rotated. The agitating roll 21 and a magnet roll 19 are connected by an idle gear 27 (consisting of gears 27a and 27b) of a double upper and lower stage structure having the clutch mechanism; and when they are interlocked with each other, power is supplied to a clutch (not shown in the figure) to engage the idle gear 27a and a gear 22 of the magnet roll 19 with each other, and rotation of the agitating roll 21 is transmitted to the magnet roll 19. Thus, the magnet roll 19 is rotated only for development to not only prevent scattering of an unnecessary toner but also reduce the power consumption, and density unevenness due to defective agitation is prevented. |
