PURPOSE:To measure the rate of elliptic polarization speedily and accurately by providing a servomotor which rotates an elliptic polarized wave generator and an electronic computer which controls the rotation of the servomotor and the transmission frequency of a signal oscillator. CONSTITUTION:The generator 12 for an elliptic polarized wave to be measured is set in a measuring instrument 1 for the rate of elliptic polarization. Then, the signal oscillator 3 generates a signal of optional frequency and the measuring instrument 1 is powered on. At this time, the electronic computer 2 controls the frequency of the oscillator 3. Then, the signal detecting part 15 in the measuring instrument 1 detects the signal voltage, whose signal is amplified by an amplifier 6 and inputted to the computer 2. The generator 12 is rotated through the servomotor 14 for rotating the elliptic polarized wave generator in the measuring instrument 1 under the control of the computer 2 and the rotation is stopped when the detected signal voltage of the detection part 15 of the measuring instrument 1 is minimum. Namely, this position is where the rate of elliptic polarization of the generator 12 is minimum. The generator 12 is fixed at this position and then a frequency range to be measured is outputted on a printer 4 through the oscillator 3, computer 2, and detecting part 15 in the measuring instrument 1.
