PURPOSE:To reduce the difference in the quantity of intake between the opening and closing of a shutoff valve, by providing a notch in the shutoff valve not only to maintain a swirl in the low-load run of an engine but also to assure some quantity of intake in the closing of the shutoff valve. CONSTITUTION:In the low-load run in which a shutoff valve 12 is closed, an intake is supplied not only through an auxiliary intake passage 13 but also through the notch 12a of the shutoff valve 12. The intake passing through the notch 12a of the shutoff valve 12 flows down on the wall 10a of a ramified intake passage 10 so that the intake intensifies a swirl caused in a combustion chamber 2 by the auxiliary intake passage 13, rather than disturbs the swirl. |
