Process for modifying polyolefins so as to improve their adhesiveness to polar polymers and/or to metals, by adding to the polyolefin in the molten state compounds which improve adhesiveness and optionally a small quantity of organic peroxide to partially graft the polymer to the polyolefin. The polymeric compound improving adhesiveness is a copolymer of olefin and of anhydrides containing double bonds, a copolymer containing unsaturated polyester groups or a mixture of the polymeric compounds mentioned. The anhydride is the anhydride of maleic acid or a cyclic anhydride derived from the latter by the Diels-Alder addition reaction. The polymer containing a polystyrene part has been prepared by condensing phthalic acid, fumaric acid, maleic acid and/or their anhydride with ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, diethylene glycol and/or dipropylene glycol.
