PURPOSE:A flame-retardant resin composition, obtained by incorporating ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resin with a hydrated inorganic compound and red phosphorus, and crosslinking the resultant mixture by irradiation with electron rays, and emitting a remarkably small amount of smoke on combustion. CONSTITUTION:A low-smoking flame-retardant resin composition obtained by incorporating (A) 100pts.wt. ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resin with 5- 30wt% vinyl acetate content with (B) 50-200pts.wt. hydrated inorganic compound, preferably aluminum hydroxide and (C) 5-50pts.wt. red phosphorus, preferably fine particulate red phosphorus having the surface coated with a resin, and crosslinking the resultant mixture by irradiation with electron rays to reduce the amount of smoke emitted on combustion remarkably. The content ratio between the components (B) and (C) is preferably 5:1 to give particularly high flame retardancy. |
