Cushioning mattress material is produced by laying a cover sheet on to a conveyor and coating this with adhesive as it is moved forwards, bonding a cushioning support but leaving one edge free, placing the spring interior on to the cushioning support, applying a belt on to the free edge, and placing on to the spring interior a second cover sheet plus cushioning support which has been prepared first. As the adhesive is applied to the edges of the cover sheet the cushioning support is continuously unreeled and rolled on to the first cover sheet, the cushioning support is cut off, and the adhesive is sprayed on to the cover sheet.
