The invention relates to a hand-held pipe saw in which the saw (10) and an associated workpiece holder (40) are connected pivotably to one another and the saw blade (22) is fully enclosed. The enclosure consists of a fixed cowl and a movable viewing cowl (26) pivoted to the latter. The pivot of the viewing cowl lies outside the outline of the fixed protective cowl, on the user's side and below the region of engagement of the saw blade (22) on the workpiece (70) and the viewing cowl (26) can be pivoted out of the fixed protective cowl away from the workpiece (70) and towards the user, thereby considerably increasing safety. <IMAGE>
