The cutting device (1) has a plurality of working planes (3, 4, 5 and 6) arranged one above the other, so that a plurality of flat panes of glass can be cut simultaneously and broken in a breaking device of a similar design which is arranged downstream. This makes it possible, for example, to apply an identical cutting programme to two flat panes of glass on the planes (3 and 4), the cutting bridges (8) of each plane being coupled and driven by a common displacing arrangement (21).
