PURPOSE:To improve horizontal resolution by forming a control electrode on a charge transfer path for a coupling section between a CCD shift register group for vertical scanning or a vertical signal line and a CCD shift register for horizontal scanning and applying voltage elevating potential under the coupling section. CONSTITUTION:An electrode 20 as a layer different from electrodes as two horizontally formed layers completely covers a coupling section region up to the upper end of an at least horizontal CCD channel from the lower end of an electrode 12-1. Since the electrode 20 is shaped to a section lower than an electrode 11-2, potential is determined only by the electrode 20 as the lower layer in a coupling section channel. Negative voltage is applied to the electrode 20 when a buried channel takes an N type and positive voltage to it when the channel takes a P type respectively, and a potential barrier is shaped in the coupling section region 21. Accordingly, potential under the electrode 20 is made higher than the final electrode 12-1 for a vertical CCD in potential, and potential difference is generated between potential under the electrode 20 and the potential of the electrode 11-2 for a horizontal CCD, thus preventing the flow-in of signal charges to the coupling section channel from the electrode 11-2 for the horizontal CCD, then improving transfer efficiency. |
