The invention derives from appliances of this kind which have a combustion chamber, a flue gas channel and an induced draught device therefor. In addition, a fresh air connection is provided between the combustion chamber in this channel, and in fact before the induced draught device. Based on the invention, a reliably working apparatus is to be provided which permits the burner of the said chamber to operate only when a sufficiently large reduction of pressure occurs in the channel. This is achieved by a constriction in the flue gas channel having associated with it a reduced pressure connection which for its part affects the safety device for the burner. The constriction is situated between the fresh air connection and the combustion chamber.
