PURPOSE:To obtain a molten carbonate fuel cell which can stably support carbonate for a long time by using for an electrolyte support material a composite oxide containing rare earth element and boron. CONSTITUTION:Composite oxides containing rare earth element and boron, especially LaBO3, CeBO3, SmBO3, are extremely stable to carbonate. Using these materials as a support material for molten carbonate, a reaction test was made under the atmosphere of CO2 gas, at a temperature of 650 deg.C, for 100hr. The result was as follows: Zirconia or potassium titanate, as used in the paste, decreased its capacity by 15% as measured before and after the reaction, while the support material by this invention was within the decrease of 5%. In addition, in the case of zirconia or potassium titanate, the change in particle diameter as measured before and after the reaction was over 8%, while, in the case of the support material by this invention, it was verified to be within 4%. |
