To separate finely divided pollutants from flue gases, in particular from refuse incineration plants, various additives are added to the flue gas, the particular pollutants present are bound by the appropriate additives or react with them. The loaded additives precipitate out or are removed by means of filters. For an economic use of the additives, the pollutant contents are measured in the flue gas and the feed of each additive is controlled via a desired value/actual value comparison. The actual values are measured by pollutant detectors which are arranged upstream of the controllable additive feeds in the direction of flow of the untreated or partially treated flue gases.
