PURPOSE:To obtain a cyan image forming coupler superior in solubility in high- boiling org. solvents and capable of forming a color image resistant to long term storage by using a silver halide color photosensitive material contg. a specified coupler. CONSTITUTION:A coupler represented by the formula is synthesized by preparing 5-hydroxy-3,4-dihydro-2(1H)quinoline deriv., then, introducing a releasable group, nitrating, reducing, and using a corresponding acid chloride, etc. The coupler is added in an amt. of 1X10<-3>-7X10<-1>mol per mol of silver halide in an emulsion. To introduce this coupler into the silver halide emulsion layer, it is dissolved, e.g., in ethyl acetate, and dispersed into a hydrophilic colloid. In the formula, R1 is optionally substd. alkyl or heterocyclic; each of R2-R5 is H, halogen, optionally substd. alkyl, aryl, or the like; X is a group releasable by the oxidation coupling reaction with a color developing agent; and (n) is 0 or 1.
