PURPOSE:To increase the contrast and to improve the color reproducibility by making the thicknesses of parts of a liq. crystal layer corresponding to color filters R, G, B optically most suitable in a device using a TN mode liq. crystal, color filters and transparent films. CONSTITUTION:The thicknesses of parts of a liq. crystal layer corresponding to color filters R, G, B are adjusted to dR=5.4mum, dG=4.8mum and dB=3.7mum. At this time, light is perfectly shielded by the filters when voltage is not applied. The color filters R, G, B 4 are formed on a transparent substrate 2b, and transparent films 7 each consisting of parts having different thicknesses are formed on the filters G, B. In order to provide said thicknesses to the liq. crystal layer, the thickness of the parts of the films 7 on the filters G is adjusted to 0.6mum, and that of the parts of the films on the filters B is adjusted to 1.7mum. An electrically conductive transparent film 5b of In2O3, SnO2 or the like is formed on the filters and the transparent films, and an orienting film 6b is formed on the film 5b. |
