[Also in Group XXXII] Relates to hinges connecting the ends of the upper horizontal edge of a door to a vehicle body (see Group XXXII). Referring to Figs. 10 and 11, the hinge at each end of the upper edge of the door 4 comprises an arm 7 connected at one end 7A to the door 4 and having its other end a pair of spaced lugs 9 pivoted at 8 to a lug 12 on a channel member 11 fixed to the vehicle cantrail. The arm 7 is also pivotally connected at 22 to a channel member link 19 having slots 23 to engage a cranked end portion 18 of a torsion rod 14 supported in bearing blocks 16 and whose other end is bent upwardly at 25 Fig. 12 and supported by a bearing (not shown) and which end 25 bears against the base of the channel 11. The other hinge member 7 co-operates with a similar torsion rod 15 and the two rods 14, 15 are twisted round each other between the cranks 18. The relationship of the torsion rods 14, 15, the cranks 18 and the links 19 is such that as the torque moment of the rods increases with the closing of the door, the radial distance from the hingecentre to the point of application of such moment decreases at a rate which will substantially balance the change in moment of the door 4 about its hinge axis 8.
