METHOD OF MANUFACTURING CHROMIUM STEEL

Mfr. of Cr steel comprises first injection a starting material, in the form of fine grains containing Cr oxide and Fe oxide, into the lower part of a two-part reactor (1) containing a solid reductant; passing the material into a reduction zone maintained using a plasma generator (11); simultaneously injecting carbon or hydrocarbon fuel into the reduction zone; removing the melted and reduced chromiferrous prod. from the bottom of the reactor; and then further refining the chromiferrous prod. The temperature of the melted prod. in the reactor is maintained at 1500-1650 C.
