PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of an optical data highway by connecting a station to an optical connector having a variable coupling ratio to an optical transmission line, varying the coupling ratio of the connector with the control signal given from the station and setting the coupling ratio at 1 when the reception level is less than the fixed value at the station to perform the reproduction relaying. CONSTITUTION:An optical connector A2i having a variable coupling ratio is connected to an optical transmission line L2, and a station ST2i is connected to the connector A2i. The coupling ratio alpha of the connector A2i is controlled with a control signal Ci given from the station ST2i. Nodes ND21-26 are linked with the line L2, and the coupling ratio alpha os set at 1 in a transmission mode for transmission of signals. While the ratio alpha is set at 1 in a reception mode, and the receptiin level is set within a range 31 of receptionable signal levels at the station ST2i. When this reception level is reduced down to a rage 32 of reproduction signal levels, the ratio alpha is switched to 1 to perform the reproduction relaying. This reduces the transmission delay, the error factor and the attenuation amount between transmission and reception and therefore improves the reliability of an optical data highway. |
