PURPOSE:To make improvements in universality for each cat type, by constituting a memory device in the above captioned unit with a first memory storing a control program, capable of holding data even in time of a power source being turned to OFF, and a sencond memory storing control data. CONSTITUTION:A microcomputer 2 making up the uncleus of a control unit for an automobile is constituted of a chip 17, installing a central processing unit 1, a mask read-only memory (second memory) 12, a random access memory 13, a timer 14, a counter 15 and an input-output port 16. Each constituent element is connected with one another by an internal address bus 18 and an internal data bus 19. Likewise, a PROM (forst memory) 21 is connected to the CPU11 via these buses 18 and 22 and an external address bus 22 and an external data bus 23. And, control data on a compensation factor to a fuel injection quantity commensurate to an engine operation state are made so as to be stored into the mask ROM12 while a control program performing the peration required for engine control into the PROM21, respectively.
