<p>PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound by carrying out the desulfonation and the elimination of OH-protecting group of the polyprenyl aryl sulfone compound derived from a (Z,Z,Z,E,E)-sulfone compound and (Z,Z) or (Z,Z,Z)-cis-isoprenoid. CONSTITUTION:The (Z,Z,Z,E,E)-sulfone compound of formula I (Ar is aryl) is made to react with the (Z,Z)- or (Z,Z,Z)-cis-isoprenoid of formula II (X is halogen; R is OH-protecting group; n is 2 or 3) to obtain the (Z,Z,Z,Z,Z,E,E)-polyprenyl alcohol derivative or the (Z,Z,Z,Z,Z,Z,E,E)-polyprenyl alcohol derivative of formula III. The derivative is subjected to the desulfonation by lithium lower alkylamine, and at the same time, to the removal of the OH-protecting group to obtain the objective betulaprenol-8 or 9 of formula IV (m is 5 or 6).
