PURPOSE:To provide a thermal transfer ribbon with a constant tension and prevent the ribbon from wrinkling, sagging or the like, by controlling the torque of a motor in accordance with the diameter of a roll of the thermal transfer ribbon. CONSTITUTION:A counter 85 counts pulse signals outputted from a Hall element group 78a for a ribbon motor 51a, and controlling information for the motors 51a, 51b according to the counted number supplied from the counter 85 is stored in a ROM83. The controlling information varies depending on the times of printing, reversely feeding the ribbon, stopping the ribbon, and non-pressing feeding of the ribbon, and is set in accordance with the counted number at the time of each of the operations. The controlling information is so set that the ribbon can be drivaen with a constant torque in accordance with the diameter of the roll of the ribbon, namely, the residual amount of the ribbon. |
