Wound dressing comprises a sheet of synthetic plastics permeable to water and air. Immediately behind the surface to be applied to the wound is a cellular region of intercommunicating collapsed open cells. Behind the cellular region is a more dense region which prevents liquid exudate from a wound passing right through the dressing. - Wound dressing material is made by agitating a polyoxyethylene polyol with a polyisocyanate and a surfactant to form an aerated creamy mix and incorporating a catalyst in the mix. The mix is spread on a smooth glazed release paper to form a sheet of predetermined thickness and is allowed to polymerise at a temp. of 25 deg. C or below. Water is excluded from the mix. - Dressing is used as a temporary wound cover in treating burns, varicose ulcers and pressure areas. The dressing will absorb a limited amount of exudate into the cellular region but prevent it passing right through the dressing.
