A description is given of a continuous process for transforming fibres into pulp which takes place in a thermomechanical or thermochemical digester which has multiple sections, each one of them at a lower pressure, and has many advantages for forming pulps suitable for newsprint or fine papers from wood and vegetable-fibre sources. The digester must also be of a type in which the fibre has a greater residence time in the subsequent sections than in the first section of the digester.
