PURPOSE:To obtain L-2-amino-4-phenylbutyric acid by the use of an enzyme industrially advantageously, by treating 2-oxo-4-phenylbutyric acid with a mold obtained from a culture solution of a specific bacterium. CONSTITUTION:2-oxo-4-Phenylbutyric acid is treated with a culture solution of a bacterium belonging to the genus Achromobacter, Acinetobacter, Bacillus, or Paracoccus, capable of producing 2-oxo-4-phenylbutyric acid from L-2-amino-4- phenylbutyric acid, a mold obtained from the culture solution, or a treated material of the mold. Formed L-2-amino-4-phenylbutyric acid is collected. In order to shorten the reaction time or increase an accumulation amount of L-2-amino- 4-phenylbutyric acid, the reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of L-amino acid, surface active agent and/or enzyme, etc. |
