1394553 Non-woven fabrics NESTE DY 8 May 1973 [9 May 1972] 21859/73 Headings D1R and D2B A web of artificial fibres is bonded by a polymeric bonding agent precipitated thereon from a dispersion or a latex thereof by means of a precipitant incorporated in the fibres. The web may be formed by dry or wet methods, and the bonding agent may be precipitated on the fibres before or after web formation. The fibres may be rayon, cellulose acetate, acrylic, modacrylic. nylon, polyester, or polyolefin fibres. The bonding agent may be precipitated from a cationic or anionic dispersion or latex utilising an anionic or cationic precipitant, respectively. Cationic dispersions or latexes include a vinyl polymer or copolymer e.g. a polyacrylate, polyvinyl acetate, polybutadiene, polyacrylonitrile, or polyvinyl chloride. Anionic dispersions or latexes include an acrylic polymer or copolymer, a styrene-butadiene copolymer, polyurethane, polyamide, chlorinated polyolefin, or polyvinyl acetate. Anionic precipitants include polymers containing carboxyl sulphonyl, sulphate, and phosphoric acid groups. Cationic precipitants include ureaformaldehyde, melamine-formaldehyde dicyandiamide-formaldehyde, or guanidineformaldehyde condensates, polytheylene imine, polyamides polyamines, polyamidoamines, and alum. Unmodified synthetic or natural fibres may also be present together with conventional additives e.g. fillers, optical brighteners, fire retardants, antioxidants, bactericides or fungicides. |
