PREPARATION OF 3,3-DIALKOXYPROPIONIC ACID DERIVATIVE

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound which is an important synthetic intermediate for medicines, agricultural chemicals and perfume substances, etc., by solvolyzing a 3-alkoxy-3-aminopropionic acid ester or 3-aminopropionitrile. CONSTITUTION:A compound expressed by formula I [R1 is 3-6C alkyl; R2 is H or CH3; R3 is COOR5 (R5 is lower alkyl or benzyl) or CN; R4 is lower alkoxyl; X is lower alkanoyl or lower alkoxycarbonyl] is solvolyzed with an alcohol expressed by the formula R4-OH in the presence of a strong acid, e.g. p-toluenesulfonic acid or concentrated sufluric acid, to give the aimed compound expressed by formula II. The compound expressed by formula I is obtained by electrolytically oxidizing an adduct of an alkylamine with an acrylic or methacrylic acid ester or acrylonitrile with an amine in an alcohol.
