Magnesite prodn. from magnesian lyes

Magnesia is obtained from magnesian lyes, pref. marine liquors from crystallisation of sodium chloride, by (a) de-sulphating the soln. with re-cycled residues of the process which a purified from heavy metals by addn. of alkali; (b) ppting. Mg(OH)2 with alkali in several countercurrent stages, using lime and dolomite; and (c) sepg. the solid hydroxide from the soln. and washing.
