PURPOSE:To produce an Al alloy conductor having excellent strength by subjecting a continuous casting billet of an Al-Mg-Si high tensile Al alloy contg. Fe, Cu, Be, etc. and contg. more excessively Si than the rate of Mg2Si to rough drawing, heat treating and cold drawing under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:An Al alloy contg. 0.5-1.4% Mg and 0.5-1.4% Si so as to contg. more excessively Si than forming Mg2Si and contg. further 0.15-0.6% Fe, 0.05-1.0% Cu and 0.001-0.3% Be is continuously cast. Such continuous casting billet is hot-rolled to a roughly drawn wire without cooling. The roughly drawn wire is heated for 0.1-10hr at 470-560 deg.C and is quickly cooled to solutionize Mg, Si, Fe, Cu, etc. into Al. The wire is then heated for 0.5-20hr at 150-250 deg.C to precipitate fine Mg2Si and to improve strength. The wire is in succession subjected to >=60% cold drawing and further to a heat treatment for 0.5-20hr at 100-180 deg.C to improve elongation and conductivity.
