PURPOSE:To obtain the titled complex free from protein-denaturation property, etc., having excellent workability, and useful for the affinity separation, enzymatic reaction, etc., by polymerizing a nitrile-containing vinyl monomer, etc. in a manner to attain a nitrile content and a bulk density falling with specific respective ranges, and adsorbing protein to the polymer. CONSTITUTION:A nitrile-containing vinyl monomer such as (meth)acrylonitrile, vinylidene cyanide, etc. or a mixture of the monomer and at least one monomer selected from acrylic acid esters, acrylic acid amide, styrene, etc., are subjected to the solution polymerization or suspension polymerization in a polymerization medium which hardly causes the swelling of the obtained (co)polymer powder (e.g. water) in the presence of a polymerization initiator soluble in the medium (e.g. ammonium persulfate-sodium bisulfite, etc.) to obtain a powdery polymer having a nitrile content of >=20wt% and a bulk density of <=0.35g/cm<3>. The polymer is made to contact with a solution of protein at 5-60 deg.C to obtain the objective complex.
