NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R is H or lower alkyl; X is aldehyde, carboxyl, alkoxycarbonyl, hydroxymethyl, o-alkylhydroxylaminocarbonyl or hydroxyaminocarbonyl). EXAMPLE:2-[p-(2-Trifluoromethyl-3,3,3-trifluoropropyl)phenyl]propanal. USE:An anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent having little gastroenteric action as side effect. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula II is reacted with a compound expressed by formula III (Y is halogen) in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst to form a compound expressed by formula IV, which is then reacted with a compound expressed by formula V (R<3> is lower alkyl) in the presence of an alkali metal alkoxide to give a glycidic acid ester derivative. The resultant glycidic acid ester derivative is hydrolyzed with an alcoholic alkali and decarbonated under acidic conditions to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I (X is aldehyde).
