A slab (1) for the thermal insulation of basement walls consists of mineral wool, the fibres of which are bonded by means of a bonding agent at the intersections, the bonding agent being hydrophobic or the mineral wool being inpregnated with a hydrophobic impregnating agent. In order to make the mineral wool at least partly hygroscopic and conductive for water without substantially reducing its insulating properties, the mineral wool is treated by means of a stream of hot air in areas 5 connecting opposite edges on at least one side face at a temperature at which at least the impregnating agent will burn away or evaporate. The heat treatment is performed by leading the mineral wool past a stream of hot air along a side face of the slab from edge to edge whereby stripes (5) of treated areas are formed in the slab. <IMAGE> |
