PURPOSE:To monitor the oil pickup of a running yarn in the on-line system with a high accuracy, by bringing the running yarn after passing through an oiling means into contact with a pair of electrodes, and detecting a current flowing between the pair of electrodes through the running yarn. CONSTITUTION:A running yarn (Y) after passing through an oiling means 2, etc. is brought into contact with a pair of electrodes 71 and 72, and a current flowing between the pair of electrodes 71 and 72 through the running yarn (Y) is detected by an ammeter 8 to monitor the oil pickup of the running yarn (Y). Preferably, the thickness of the running yarn (Y) is 50-1,500de, and the running speed of the yarn (Y) is <=2,000m/min.
