PURPOSE:To form a yarn having good physical properties at a low cost without causing thermal decomposition, by adding a cyclic ester in a specific proportion to modify cellulose acetate and impart internal plasticity thereto, and melt spinning the resultant modified cellulose acetate. CONSTITUTION:A cyclic ester, e.g. epsilon-caprolactone, in an amount of 0.5-4.0mol based on the anhydroglucose unit is added to free hydroxyl groups in cellulose acetate to repare a modified cellulose acetate, which is then melted at 170- 350 deg.C, and extruded into air to form the aimed yarn. The above-mentioned modified cellulose acetate is obtained by ring opening and graft polymerization of the cyclic ester with the cellulose acetate.
