NEW MATERIAL:The substituted iminoacetic acid derivative of formula I (R1 is group of formula II, formula III or formula IV (X is S, O, imino, or acylimino); R2 is H, lower alkenyl or lower alkyl; Z is H or lower alkyl) and its salt. EXAMPLE:2-(2,3-Dihydro-1,4-oxathiin-6-yl)-2-methoxyiminoacetic acid. USE:Useful as a raw material for the synthesis of cephalo compound or its salt useful as an antibiotic. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I wherein R1 is group of formula IIcan be produced, e.g. by reacting the compound of formula V with the compound of formula HSCH2CH2-X-H, and hydrolyzing the resultant compound of formula V.
