PURPOSE:To obtain a high-density recording medium having excellent running property and winding style by providing an intermediate layer contg. polyurethane acrylate having a specific mol.wt. or below and a radiation polymerizable monomer at a specific proportion between a non-magnetic substrate having surface roughness of a specific value or above and a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:An intermediate layer contg. 30-80wt% the monomer out of the sum of polyurethane acrylate having <=3,000mol.wt. and a monomer polymerizable and curable by electron rays, UV rays, etc. for example, diethylene glycol diacrylate is coated between a non-magnetic substrate having >=0.01mu surface roughness and a magnetic layer such as a thin ferromagnetic film or the like in such a way that said layer attains the thickness ranging 0.1-1.5mu after curing. Electron rays are then irradiated thereto to cure the layer, thus forming the intermediate layer having <=0.01mu surface roughness. A thin ferromagnetic magnetic metallic film layer is formed thereon. The excellent magnetic recording medium having high adhesion between the substrate and the magnetic layer and excellent S/N, durability, etc. is thus obtd.
