<p>These compounds have the formula <CHEM> wherein R and R<1>, which may be the same or different, are hydrogen or alkyl, preferably C1-C4 alkyl, and X, Y and Z are each independently hydrogen, chlorine or fluorine, provided that when R, R<1> and Z are hydrogen, X and Y are not both hydrogen or both fluorine, and are prepared by reacting (a) an alkyl magnesium halide of formula RR<1>HCMg.Hal with a benzophenone of formula <CHEM> wherein Hal is halogen; (b) a compound of formula <CHEM> with a Grignard compound of formula <CHEM> or, when X and Y are the same and Z is hydrogen; (c) 2 mols of a Grignard compound of formula (VIII) with 1 mol of an ester of formula RR<1>CHCOOR<2> R<2> being a hydrocarbon radical. The compounds are intermediates for the preparation of fungicidal compounds.</p> |
