Electric razor

An electric razor (Figure 1) has a cutting head (1) with a cutting film (2) and a cutting plate (3) arranged below the latter. The cutting film (2) is fastened on its two longitudinal sides so as to be flat and under tension and the cutting plate (3) is designed so as to be essentially self-supporting and resiliently elastic in a close-fitting fashion. The cutting plate (3) is connected to a drive which imparts to it a circular vibratory motion. A cutting plate support (4) preferably has two essentially parallel, knife-shaped, narrow supporting surfaces (5) for pressurisation of the cutting plate (3) against the cutting film (2). Carrier pins and reception bushes are provided to transmit the circular vibratory movement. The cutting head may have a working surface which is approximately rectangular or one which is circular. By making the cutting film (2) and the cutting plate (3) flat with appropriate perforations, a good cutting performance is achieved and by making the cutting plate (3) an elastic, close-fitting part, the shape conforms well when the cutting film (2) is deformed. In this way, the cutting performance is improved and wear is reduced. In the embodiment with the circular cutting head, the supporting surface is preferably annular. <IMAGE>
