2-HYDROXY-3-METHYL-BRANCHED-ALKOXYPROPYL GLYCERYL ETHER AND COSMETIC COMPOSITION CONTAINING SAME

Disclosed herein is a 2-hydroxy-3-methyl-branched-alkoxypropyl glyceryl ether represented by the general formula (I): wherein m and n are integers and range respectively from 4 to 10 and 5 to 11, m + n ranges from 11 to 17, and the ether is distributed in its components with a peak at m = 7 and n = 8. A cosmetic composition containing the above 2-hydroxy-3-methyl-branched-alkoxypropyl glyceryl ether is also disclosed. The above ether is chemically stable and excellent especially in emulsification capacity because it does not contain double bonds, ester bonds and the like in its molecule. Thus, the above cosmetic composition can remain as a stable W/O type emulsion over a prolonged time period even if lots of water is present.
