An apparatus for removing and setting down rings (B) of rolled strip coiled onto an expanding mandrel (14), having pincer arms (1, 2) which surround the cylindrical outer circumference of the ring (B) of rolled strip, carry pressure rollers and are supported by swivel drives (7) in a supporting frame that can be moved above and parallel to the axis of the expanding mandrel. The pincer arms (1, 2) have the shape of two half rings (1, 2) which can be connected to one another by a pincer joint (3), and are provided with extensions (1a, 2a) which project tangentially beyond the pincer joint (3) and the ends of which are articulated by double-joint plates (15) on the supporting frame. The pincer joint (3) is articulated on the driving member (5) of the reciprocating motor (7) arranged on the supporting frame, and the pressure rollers (18, 19) are supported on the free ends of the half rings (1, 2). <IMAGE>
