A lathe has a chuck-jaw magazine (3) which is designed as a linear magazine that can be moved into the working space of the lathe by a tappet (4) of a customary loading device. Storage locations for the chuck jaws (6) are provided one behind the other on a slide (5) in the chuck-jaw magazine (3). The chuck jaws (6) can be swopped one after the other between the chuck-jaw magazine (3) and the chuck (1) by means of a chuck-jaw loading and unloading device (7). The important point here is that the chuck-jaw magazine (3) can be positioned exactly with respect to the chuck (1) by means of centring pins. <IMAGE>
