A method for preparing a chlorinated vinyl aromatic polymer, comprises dissolving a vinyl aromatic polymer represented by the general formula <IMAGE> where R1, R2 and R3 may be the same or different and each represents hydrogen or a C1-C6 lower alkyl group, and n is an integer of from 50 to 30,000, in an organic solvent, and subjecting it to an electrolytic reaction in the presence of an aqueous solution containing chlorine ions. |
