PURPOSE:To keep partial charge in anode plate to increase battery performance by overcharging after electrolyte is poured and allowing to partially escape outside oxygen gas evolved in cathode in a Ni-Cd battery with a safety valve opened. CONSTITUTION:4.0ml of electrolyte was impregnated into a plate group, then a battery was charged at a constant current of 1.2A. After 1hr, a cathode was fully charged and oxygen gas evolved. When a battery is sealed, evolved gas is absorbed in an anode, and equilibrium is kept. When a battery is opened, only a part of oxygen gas is absorbed in the anode, and residual gas is exhausted outside the battery. Therefore, the anode is charged in excess to the extent corresponding to exhausted oxygen gas, and partial charge is kept. The amount of overcharge is preferably limited to 10-20% of the cathode capacity, and it corresponds to charge at a constant current of 1.2A for 6-12min. The life test result of the battery in which partial charge is kept is shown in the figure. A battery A manufactured by this invention shows excellent life performance. |
